Renault had problems with both cars in FP1, seeing Heidfeld and Petrov in the gravel trap with failures under breaking. D’ambrosio also ended up in the traps after a similar failure in FP1. The hotter FP2 has given an indication that the tires are going to fall apart in Sepang as well as 75 – 90% chance of rain during the race too!!
Maldonado had a similar crash to Barrichello’s quali crash last time out, dipping a wheel on the grass and putting it into the wall.
As for the 107% we’re looking at a time of 1:36 / 1:37 in Q1 giving a cut-off time of 1:42.72 – 1:43.79, so some teams are in danger of falling foul of the rule this weekend.
As a side note a lot of drivers have not done proper wet running, with Schumacher admitting he has done no wet running at all on any of the Pirelli rubber!
