Force India and Ferrari launch in the snow

With snow sprinkeling silverstone and it a foot deep in Marenello the F1 world marches on with Force India and Ferrari revealing their 2012 challengers.

The Ferrari features an odd blockier nose combined with a very tight rear end packaging. The challenge for the teams this year is to get as much air flowing under the car with the new lower nose regulations. It doesn’t feature the vanes seen on other cars on the upper part of the nose and a rather short and stubby thin nose. There was no real launch from Ferrari due to the weather condtions in Marenello.

Force India launched at an event at Silverstone (over the road from their headquaters) and the car appears to be another good step from Vijay’s team. It has the Caterham style duck-billed nose but with a “hammerhead” camera mounting on the front and appears to be a more elegant solution than Caterham. Again tight rear packaging and an evolution combined with a traditional roll hoop should give the team a great base for the year. They have ambitions of getting to 5th in the constructors which will require them to overtake Lotus or Mercedes. Paul Di Resta gave a brief demo run/shakedown of the car in front of the media.

Talking of Lotus they will be next up with a online launch on Sunday evening. Williams, Toro Rosso, Sauber and the one everyone is waiting for – Red Bull will show early next week before testing starts on Tuesday. Merecedes and HRT are targeting the second test with Marussia holding off until the final of the 3 pre-season tests to show their hand.
